Winter Wonderland!

We have been learning about winter this past month.

We went on a winter walk. We looked at the bare trees. They have no leaves. We saw bird feeders on some of the trees in the school. It is difficult for the birds to find food in winter. It's up to us to help them!

We made these robins to put on our winter tree in the classroom.

Robins have red breasts. We scrunched up crepe paper into balls to look like his soft feathers.

We listened to the story Jack Frost. We drew pictures based on the story. We used chalk and crayons on coloured paper.

We recorded the weather every week. We did it on the board for the first two weeks of January. Then we recorded it in our weather station and finally we recorded the weather in our maths books. Have a look.

We talked about winter clothes - our woolies and wellies! We sequenced a girl dressing in her winter clothes before going out to play with the snow.

We talked about how we keep warm in winter time. We came up with some really good ideas!

Reading with the Big Girls and Two Pupils of the Week

Here are two of our pupils of the week from January.

Well done you two. Keep up the great work!

The big girls from second class came to visit us two times in January. They read to us in small groups. They are very good at reading. We loved listening to the stories.

Please come back soon!

Aistear

We started a new play time in school last week. We call it Aistear. We learn through play. Aistear is the Irish word for journey. To learn more about Aistear please click here.
We usually do it in the middle of the day from 11.20am until 12.10pm. First we plan what we are going to do in our groups. Next we get to play in our stations. Afterwards we review what we did. This means we tell the class what we were doing during the playtime.

We are going to play with these five different stations in January.

The Farm

Play Dough

Here we are making the play dough.

And here we are playing with it!

We love Aistear!

Incy Wincy Spider

We learned the rhyme Incy Wincy Spider.

We made spiders using paper plates. First we painted the plates black. Then we folded strips of black paper to make bendy legs. Finally we stuck on the eyes, mouth and legs.

We also coloured and cut out spiders. Some of us coloured patterns on the legs! Here are some of the spiders up on the wall. Don't they look great?

We have some spiders around our red door too!

The rest are hanging inside.

We sequenced the Incy Wincy Spider rhyme.

We are making spider cupcakes. Every day a different table gets a turn. They look delicious!

We listened to the story The Very Busy Spider. Listen to it in the video below.

Our Shape Hunt

Last week we had a shape hunt in PE. Teacher made a big mess in the hall. She threw different colour shapes all over the ground! Each team had a different colour to find. We had to solve the clues to know which shape to look for.

When we had found all the shapes we worked with our teams to make pictures. Here are some of the things we came up with!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Here are our last two Pupils of the Week for 2014.

Well done boys.

They got to celebrate with Santa Claus!

This lucky duck from Room 2 won a prize in the Christmas raffle.

We had so much fun when Santa came to visit!

Santa played the tin whistle for us. He was fantastic.
We sang him Christmas songs as a thank you. He thought we were super!
