Fantastic Fruit

We are learning a lot about fruit this week.

One day teacher brought in lots of fruit. We passed the fruit around to feel the fruit. Some fruit was smooth like the apple and pear. We thought the pineapple was rough and spiky.

Teacher cut the fruit and we had all tasted a piece. We tasted pineapple, clementines, apples, pears, bananas, strawberries and grapes.

We learned to wash the fruit before we eat it. We talked about where different fruits grow and what they grow on. Apples, strawberries and pears can grow here in Ireland but the other fruits we tasted grow in hot countries.

Just before we tidied up Ms Carr came into the classroom with a fruit we had never seen before. Teacher cut it open. We looked inside. We still didn't know what it was! Do you know what it is?

We learned that this fruit is called a passionfruit.

We then picked our favourite fruit between the apple, the orange, the banana and the strawberry. Can you figure out which fruit we like best?

We drew fruit in our copies. We did a fantastic job! They look great!

We made made sets of fruit. We coloured and cut out fruit. We grouped the fruit into a set of strawberries, a set of pineapples, a set of apples and a set of oranges.

We painted pears one morning. We used green and yellow paint. You will have to wait until next week to see what we will make with them.

We are reading the story Handa's Surprise. Handa collects fruit to bring to her friend Akeyo in another village. She meets animals along the way and you won't believe what those hungry animals do! You can listen to the story on the video below.
