Green Halloween - Trick or Treat Bags

Halloween is coming!

We made Trick or Treat bags using recyclable materials.

We used lots of things - cardboard boxes, waste paper, scraps of material, used foil and much, much more!

First we painted the boxes when they were flat. We used black and purple paint as they can be spooky colours!

Our next job was to decorate the boxes. Here we are at work.

Don't they look fantastic?

We modelled the Trick or Treat bags on Friday at the Green Halloween Fashion Show.

We had a wonderful time showing off our bags and looking at what the other classes made!

In the classroom Rocaí Rua has been teaching us some Halloween words! Say hello to "an chailleach agus an púca"!

A Little Bit More About Autumn!

We drew autumn trees in our copies. We remembered that autumn leaves are red, yellow, orange and brown. The leaves are falling down. The trees look fantastic.

We sequenced Harry the Hedgehog as he prepares to hibernate.

He goes for a walk, eats a big, big dinner and then curls up into a ball to go for his long sleep.

We had an autumn birthday this week.

Back to Black!

Our colour of the week is BLACK. This is a great colour to learn about as we come up to Halloween.

We made a black table. Many of us remembered to bring in something black to put on the table.

We drew black things in our copies. We all drew witches and cats along with some other black things.

We are learning the rhyme 10 Black Cats.

One black cat sitting in a tree.
Two black cats paddling in the sea.
Three back cats swinging on a swing.
Four black cats dancing in a ring.
Five black cats drinking lemonade.
Six black cats digging with a spade.
Seven black cats wearing sailor hats.
Eight black cats waving cricket bats.
Nine black cats standing on their heads.
Ten black cats sleeping in their beds.

Autumn Fun

This week we learned a lot about autumn.

We went on an autumn walk in the school and convent grounds. Here we are heading off on the walk! We sang the rhyme Red Leaves Falling.

In autumn the leaves change colour and fall down from the trees. We saw lots of leaves on the ground.

We picked up some leaves.

Some of us found feathers too!

Look at all the leaves we brought back to the classroom!

We sorted them into types.

We made leaf rubbings with our leaves. You can see them up on our class tree in the first picture.

We learned about some animals.

The hedgehog hibernates during autumn and winter. That means he goes for a really long sleep and doesn't wake until the days start getting warm again.

We drew spines on the hedgehog in our writing book. We drew some berries for him too!

Half the class stuck spines on this hedgehog.

The squirrel gathers lots of nuts during autumn. He hides them in a secret place. This way he won't run out of food during the cold winter months.

The other half of the class coloured the squirrel brown and then stuck brown crepe paper on the squirrel's tail. A squirrel has a big, bushy tail just like our pictures.

We made a fantastic display with all our beautiful autumn work.

We learned about some food.

Apples are ripe and juicy in autumn. We sing the song The Farmer has an Orchard.

We finished the apple tree in our writing book.

Pumpkins are ready to be picked in autumn. We learned the rhyme 5 Little Pumpkins.

We performed the rhyme.

We coloured and cut out pumpkins.

Welcoming Ceremony and Pupil of the Week

We had our Welcoming Ceremony today. Lots of mammies and daddies came into school to hear us sing some of our lovely songs.

We sat on the steps of the stage with Room 1 and Room 3. Here we are.

This lady had an especially great day. She is our Pupil of the Week for this week!
