Ricky Rectangle

Last week we learned all about rectangles.

A rectangle has four sides and four corners. Count them and see!

A rectangle has two long sides and two short sides.

Sometimes the long sides are at the top and bottom.

Sometimes the short sides are at the top and bottom.

We learned a rhyme about rectangles.

Ricky Rectangle is my name.

My four sides are not the same.

Two are short and two are long.

Count my sides, come right along.

We went on a rectangle hunt in the classroom. Rectangles are everywhere. The door, the tops of the tables, the windows, our books and copies, the whiteboard. So many things are rectangle shapes!

We made a rectangle table.

We found rectangles in the shape box.

We sorted our shapes into sets of rectangles and not rectangles.

The next day we put rectangles in the set of rectangles and said that the other shapes were outside the set.

We drew rectangles in our shape book.
